The Elora Centre for the Arts is launching an open call for sculpture artists for an outdoor project!

PROJECT: THE PATHS THAT CONNECT US

Outdoor engaging spaces that promote art, engagement, and connection on the grounds of the Elora Centre for the Arts.

The Elora Centre for the Arts (ECFTA) has recently received a project grant from the Government of Canada’s “Healthy Communities” fund to help transform our 2-acre greenspace into a vibrant gathering space that encourages community connection and creativity, celebrating the paths that connect us – to each other, to nature, and to our neighbourhoods.

With loops and pathways as the backdrop thematic of the project, it will also help establish ECFTA as a geographically central hub; a gathering place and a place to be inspired by art.

The project will include an outdoor art gallery pathway, showcasing sculptures, murals, and rotating outdoor art. It will also include a large bike trail map, bicycle parking and picnic tables. The project includes the permanent installation of 2 outdoor sculptures – we are looking for submissions!

The Call:

The project includes the installation of 2 permanent sculpture pieces within the outdoor gallery and pathway.

Sculpture submissions must fall into the theme of “connection.”

The selected sculptures will be purchased for $2500 each.

Specifications:

Minimum height: 3 ft Maximum height: 8 ft (exceptions can be made on heights that are greater)

width: 6 ft

Sculpture submissions can exist within your collection (as long as they are within the theme) or they can be custom made for the project.

Each artist can submit up to 2 sculpture proposals.

The sculpture should not pose a risk of injury to the public (i.e., no sharp points, or trip hazards) and must be robust enough to withstand outdoor installation in all weather conditions.

Submission Requirements:

Please provide a sketch or photo of your submission, with details of dimensions and materials

Please provide installation requirements (single post, concrete slab, etc.). ECFTA will cover the cost of installing the proper base for the sculptures selected.

Please provide the name of the sculpture, with a brief description how it fits within the theme of “connection.”

Please provide a brief artist bio

Submit all information within one email, with appropriate attachments to Lianne Carter director@ecfta.ca

Timing/Deadlines:

The Town of Collingwood invites Ontario-based artists (including artist teams) to submit their credentials and interest to the first stage of a competition for public artwork to be installed at the Tremont Plaza in downtown Collingwood in 2022.

For this project, the Town of Collingwood is seeking public artwork to celebrate LGBTQ+ life. In particular, works are encouraged that consider and engage experiences of resilience, strength, affirmation, belonging, transformative joy and other topics that acknowledge the journey of LGBTQ+ individuals in the community.

The public artwork will be selected through an open, two-stage competition. Three candidates will be selected by a Public Art Working Group to advance as finalists and present a proposal with an honorarium paid for their participation.

The budget for artwork is $41,000 (inclusive) and includes fees for design, fabrication, installation, insurance, travel and other incidental expenses.

Submissions are due Monday, May 17, 2021, 4:00 p.m.

I am sending you this Call for Submissions for the first Paisley Street Sculpture Project at the suggestion of David Robertson. I realize that we are very late getting this out and will most likely be limited to sculptures which are already completed but we would really like to get started this year. I would appreciate any help you can offer as far as getting this out to your network of artists. I can be reached at 519 386 6641 or mgj@eastlink.ca. Thanks in advance for your consideration of this matter.
